THE IMITATION GAME
USA, 2014 (in movie theatres in December 2014)
Et voilà! As every existing story in this world must absolutely be brought on screen by Hollywood, after the brilliant BBC’s “Codebreaker”, here it comes “The imitation game”. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the genious U.K. mathematician and computer scientist who helped the Allies secure victory in World War II by cracking the German enigma code, and who later committed suicide after being prosecuted as a homosexual by his own government.
This blog is looking for a new editor
I guess this gaysinmovies tumblr started about two years ago as a follow-up blog of homoinmotion. Almost 3,000 followers undergo this daily update of all kinds of lgbtq related movies.
In this blog I do not censor, nor do I select on quality. I try and publish without giving any appreciation. I even delete promotional material and comments from the texts I copy. I just relate. But when making a selection I do prefer romantic drama and narrative above violence, horror and fantasy.
To know the lgbt movie scene I have a few sources. First off I follow related tumblr blogs (I follow 22 blogs). Next I use the “Queer film festival list”. A couple of weeks before the start of a festival I visit their festival pages and copy new titles and directors in my spreadsheet. These are some of the links I check:
- and Advocate, Out Magazine, Huffington Post and so on.
I only post about movies that come with at least a teaser or a trailer. Only when I think the movie is important enough will I publish about a foreign language movie without English subtitles (I am not a native English speaker - I speak several languages and understand a few more).
To make the posts I use a simple template file that I edit with all the information I can find and I paste this template as html in the edit box.
I normally have a queue of 10 to 50 entries and I publish every night around 12 o’clock continental European time.
With the existing queue I still have 14 days to go. I am looking for a friendly follower with much time to do the job after that. I can hand over everything that I have and the next editor can change the direction of the blog at will.
Only a few persons responded to my first call. If no one steps forward who I can trust with the legacy, I either wil leave it to the first respondent, or I will close the shop without a follow-up.
